Default Y&T took Japan by storm

I don't know why Gene Simmons had to be on the front cover of the latest issue of Burrn! magazine in Japan, but the important thing is, the readers' pop poll results are on this issue.

    Here we go:

    Champion: Bruce Dickinson (Iron Maiden)
    2. W. Axl Rose (Guns N' Roses)
    3. Corey Taylor (Slipknot)
    4. Rob Halford (Judas Priest)

    22 Dave Meniketti (Y&T)

Champion: Michael Amott (Arch Enemy, Carcass etc)
    2. Alexi Laiho (COB)
    3. Uli Jon Roth
    4. Angus Young (AC/DC)
    5. Michael Schenker
    6. Nuno Bettenchourt (Extreme)
    7. Yngwie Malmsteen
    8. Mick Mars (Motley Crue)
    9. Herman Li (Dragonforce)
    10. Synyster Gates (A7X)
    11. Dave Meniketti (Y&T)

    <Live performance in Japan>
    Champion: Iron Maiden
    2. Slipknot
    3. Def Leppard & Whitesnake
    4. Judas Priest
    5. Arch Enemy
    6. Motley Crue
    7. Y&T

    <Editors' choice>
    Taka Okuno:
    Guitarist: Dave Meniketti (Taka Okuno)

    Masao Fujiki:
    Live performance in Japan: Rage
Live performance in Japan (runner-up): Y&T

Well, some of you may feel weird about those rather "young" guitar players, but all of those bands are selling 30-50 thousand or even more CDs just in Japan, and all of them toured/played in Japan last year, so it's really a tough competition.

To be really honest, knowing a bit of the business shxt here in Japan, I would say it's really an exceptional result

That's great to see... but man... Mick Mars above Dave??!? I don't think so!

Thanks for the update Y-Mats. That's cool.

    ...singer from "Slipknot"? That's funny.

as far as my list goes, I wouldnt put more then 5 other rock guitarist
over Meniketti( in the world), but that comes down to each taste in style i think.

Deep in my heart I’ll find where to start
And follow the light to the end

    Hey Y-Mats

Thanks for the poll results. I agree Jeff, that one just stumps me.
    Mick over Dave??? NO WAY!!!

I do like Mick though, I love the rawness of that first Crue album. He was so rough and unpolished back then, but over the years his playing just got better and better, he is one helluva player.

Well, if I remember correct, I think Tommy Lee once positioned above people like Jon Lord or Keith Emerson... yes, as a keyboard player!

That's for sure one side of this kind of poll, but it doesn't cast any shadow over what Dave and Y&T achieved this time - in fact, it makes it even greater that true talent like the boys got the votes they deserve.

Ah, I forgot to mention one more thing:

Champion: "Tyrants of the Rising Sun - Live in Japan" Arch Enemy
2: "Live in the LBC & Diamonds in the Rough" A7X
3: "Live after Death" Iron Maiden
    4: "Roadrunner United - The Concert" V.A.
    5: "Live Gothic" Therion
    6: "Live at Donington" AC/DC
7: "Live One Hot Night" Y&T

About Mick Mars and Motley Crue, I think the fact that they released a new album, headlined a big festival, and toured some arenas last year, has a lot to do with the result.

But rest assured, Vince Neil is on #26 in the vocalist poll
