Jimmy D. & his partner Paul just opened San Jose Pro Drum on Willow in SJ 3 weeks ago as stated in the April Newsletter from Meniketti.com. Thanks for the FYI, Dave!

Jimmy will be giving clinics (& lessons!?!!) there. I'll definitely be droppin' in for gear & tips real soon.

BTW Paul said Jimmy endorses Pearl Eliminator pedals now.

I know that this thread is old but I just got here.
My kit was custom made by Ludwig in 1976(Leonard had some input)They are 9 ply maple shells covered in a sheet of chrome. 2 14x24 in Kick drums 2 12x15 rack toms 16x16 and 16x18 floor toms. I have Leonards old 6 1/2x 14 brass shell snare(made from a WW2 shell casing loudest snare I have ever heard) and backup 6 1/2 x 14 black chrome snare from 1977. I use a total of 11 Paiste Red Colour Sound cymbals(Half courtesy of Leonard) and I love this kit. The kick pedals are DW5000 with custom plates atttached to the bottoms for stability. I do love my kit.The Hi-Hats are 15"rude sound edge for the main and 15" red sound edge for the X hat.

The whole kit sounds GREAT. Especially the snares. Is the black chrome a Black Beauty? I had a 5-&-a-half inch Ludwig BB that I wish I still had. Alas.....

Hello to all you beaters out there,
I thought I could add my two cents worth on this subject.Over the years I have owned Ludwig, Gretsch,Zicko's,Camco(now known as D.W.),Rogers,Yamaha,Premier and Slingerland kits. But the only kits I have ever purchased more than once (three times)is Ludwig. The best way to point out their quality is you always hear people say " I've got a 1961 Ludwig kit" or "I checked out this old Ludwig kit and it kicked ass." You sometimes hear these types of comments about Slingerland or Gretsch but not as often as with Ludwig's.They invented the trap kit and no one's made one better. When I didn't have an endorsement I bought Ludwig and still would.I've had offers from other drum manufacturers but stayed playing Ludwig endorsement or not.
One more bit of info for you, my fellow beaters. If you have'nt tried Ludwig heads in the last few years, you have missed playing(to me)the best of all drum heads. They are the most tone gettin', indestructible, easily tuned and best made heads going.I don't care what you do they won't ever pull out of their rim.You can tighten them in a circle with a drill as far as they will go , beat the hell outta 'em, take it off then put it back on, tune it up, and play lots of gigs without it pulling out or loseing tone. With every other head I've used on my snare drum in particular I had to change one per gig or every two rehersals. With Ludwig heads I go 4 or 5 gigs.I can reherse for a week and play a gig with the same head. For my money Ludwig makes the best drums and heads.
But bottom line is whatever works is the best. Just one thing though, why does every drum company keep coming up with series this and custom series that? All they are is what Ludwig Classics and Super Classics have always been.

Hey, Leonard-I'm jealous of this new cat , Jeff. He gets a snare & cimbals from ya, & I've never even got a lousy stick. Sheesh.

    Hey Terr,
I hope you don't think that I just turned Jeff on to that stuff 'cause I'm so generous and cool.NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.I don't recall the exact deals, but I do know there was quite alot of negotiation involved. With Jeff and I there always was.We could argue (negotiate, barter, haggle and argue) for hours over a bolt.Hey Jeff didn't I win a '77 Camaro LT1 in a once in a lifetime(me beating you this only time)game of 9 ball? I'm still waitin' for the 'maro.

With me and Leonard it was always a LOOONNGGG and drawn out trade/fight/negotiation.But it sure made it fun. Learned a lot of tricks for tuning and playing from Leonard.
All drummers go listen to early Y&T albums for some of the early great licks ever!!
